Controlling the Ball with the Instep of the Foot

Trapping with the instep, the top of the foot, is typically used when the ball is coming from above you and dropping.

  1. Read the flight of the ball and position body behind the flight of the ball.
  2. Elbows up and away from the body for balance.
  3. Knee's slightly bent.
  4. Chest over balance foot (non-trapping foot)
  5. Lift trapping foot while bending the same knee.
  6. Slightly point toe of trapping foot.
  7. As the ball makes contact with the instep (shoe laces) withdraw the foot to cushion the ball to feet.
  8. Attempt to drop the ball directly in front at your feet
